Avaya Hard at Work on Nortel Integration – Report

‘It Is Going to be a Very Smooth Transaction’

10/27/2009

One of Avaya Inc.’s top execs says the telecom company’s $915 million purchase of Nortel Networks’ enterprise unit should be finished by the end of the year.

That’s according to an exclusive interview from itp.net.

Avaya now is working hard on integration plans, said Michael Bayer, EMEA president at Avaya.

"I have done acquisitions before and been acquired before, but the level of preparation and focus and processes makes me confident that it is going to be a very smooth transaction," he told itp.net.

Bayer also said the acquisition should double the number of workers Avaya employs in the Middle East. He also expressed confidence in Nortel’s channel strategy to help Avaya broaden its own. Nortel “started that journey much earlier than we did, so that should give us better combined reach,” Bayer told the publication.

Avaya has filed required global antitrust documents and, according to Bayer, will release its next “guidance” in early November, itp.net reported.
